Üral Series Chapter 5
"Okay, im going to find somewhere I can stay the night, then I can start questioning people about my brother." Üral mumbled.
He spent time slowly walking in the streets, watching the patterns of the walls, the ground and the sky, the sky was moslty the same as the one he saa evsryday yet it still felt special looking at it while listening to the speeches of the people around him.
He reached for someone but they ignored him. He then stepped infront of another peson and asked "Im new here can you show me the way to the inn?"
Three men were sitting far from the crowd. Two of them were in full knight armor and the third, blone one was wearing light armor. Everyone in the bar were sitting far from them, some were even staring.
Far in the other corner two friends were chatting, "Hey isnt that sir Rafel?"
His friend answered "Hey! Keep your voice down, thats him."
"Why isnt he on patrol?"
"Knights are allowed to rest too."
He nodded at that answer. After a few second of silence he spoke again.
"I heard he sensed something yesterday?"
"Talking about the great disaster?"
"Yeah..."
"There is no way you believe in those tales."
"But everyone is talking about it!"
"If you really think thats real, go and ask him. He is sitting right there." His friend pointed at the man wearing partial armor.
"What if he thinks im dangerous? I heard the lord lets him kill anyone he thinks is dangerous."
"You are a construction worker in his brrak drinking at an inn, he is not going to kill you."
The man seemed to be thinking about something.
His friend continued, "Come on, I will pay you 2 triangle schdinks."
The man smiled, "Make it three."
"Done."
The man got up his seat and made his way over to the blonde man sitting with 2 other knights.
"Sir Rafel, may I ask you something please?"
The blonde man looked at the man with a slight disgust in his face.
"What?"
"Sorry for disturbing you. I was just wondering if the tales about you are real?"
"Which tales?"
"People are talking about a..." The man hesitated.
"Continue." Rafel insisted.
"They are saying that you sensed a great disaster."
"There is no room for concern as long as I-" Rafel stopped. His face dropped even angrier, his eyes seemed as if they were hunting for prey.
The man asking the question took a step back as the blonde knight got up from his seat and opened his hand besides him.
A thick cloud of smoke started forming around his hand, it slowly took the shape of a sword. When it finally materialized the man yelled "The holy sword of souls!"
This sword had a very thin handle wrapped in black cloth, its blade was also thin and long, the tip of the ended in a strong curl like a wave in the ocean. This was Rafel's holy sword that everyone always talked about, it allowed Rafel to steal and consume soul energy. Everyone knew Rafel blocked spells with this and hunted dangerous sorcerers that threathened the city. Everyone also knew that rafel had another sword that talked to him, like a new sense he had. It let him sense danger. This is why he had patrol duty almost everyday, he walked around the city and hunted for a sense of danger. When he found the source he always obliterated it, he never once failed a mission.
Everyone in the inn looked terrified, the man yelled "Im sorry sir! I promise you I wasnt trying to anger you. Please forgive me!"
Rafel wasnt looking at the man, his eyes were locked on the inn door.
Üral found his way to the inn, it was a wooden structure with multiple floors.
Üral slowly pushed the doors. When he entered everyone turned to him. This is unsettling.
Üral made a weak sound, "Hi..."
A blonde man from the corner spoke up, there was a weirdly shaped sword in his hand. "Leave this city right this moment or im taking your life!"
"Whoa man, Sorry if I entered the wrong building. I was just looking for the inn."
"Are you here for my life?" The blond man screamed angrily.
"No, no, no! Im looking for a job, im new in this city." Üral put his empty hands up to show them he wasnt gonna do anything. He noticed the two fully armored knight standing besides the blond man with the sword.
The blonde man couldnt wait any longer, he charged at Üral with his sword in the air.
Üral remembered "Killing in the city is forbidden." He wanted to keep his spells a hidden fact but this seemed like an emergency.
Whatever, I think I should just run. Üral bolted out the inn, he ran through unfamiliar streets. Once he turned into an alley he noticed the road ended there, he turned back to see the blonde knight. He was caught in a dead end.
The blonde man seemed a little calmer. "Why are you running? Arent you powerfull?"
"I dont know what makes you think that. I dont intend on harming anybody."
"My instinct never lies."
"Your instinct?"
"You are not from this city, are you?"
"No, I arrived today."
"So it was you triggering my instinct a few days ago."
"I dony know anything about your instinct. I am just looking for my brother."
"Who is your brother?"
"Valen. He is younger and fitter than me, he-" Üral was cut off by the knight.
"Considering the strength of my instinct, you are either about to kill me or you might kill a lot of people in the near future."
"I am not planning to kill anybody."
"Why say 'I am not planning to kill' and not 'I cant kill' I know you are hiding something."
"I never killed anybody."
"That is still not the right words."
"I have been living in the woods for years, I dont know anything about your culture. Just let me go!"
"The woods..."
"So... Shoul we learn each other's names before making assumptions?"
"I am Rafel. I am one of the top ranking knights of this city."
"And I am Üral, here to find my brother who ran away."
"So what can you do? Cast spells?"
Üral seemed sceptical about saying the truth but he didnt want to risk lying to tge knights. "Yes."
The knight tightened the grip on his sword. "So you are one of those sorcerers."
"No..? Which sorcerers?"
"Cult of the dark tree."
"Never heard of them." Üral shrugged.
"There is no way of deceiving me, a blessed knight. Just attack me already."
"I dont want to fucking attack you!" Üral snapped.
"Then you are here to take children?"
"Fucking no!"
Rafel seemed surprised.
"You are not allowed to leave my sight as long as my instinct tells me you are dangerous."
"Your instinct? Thats all you have on me?"
"I have been blessed with the holy sword of instinct, it allows me to feel how dangerous people are."
"Holy sword?"
"You really have been living in the woods havent you?"
"Yeah, told you already."
"Holy swords are blessings given to ones that got a chance to talk with the gods."
"Gods are fucking real? How much shit have I missed in the past years?"
"Humanity already knew for hundreds of years. We even host tournaments to find out who is going to be blessed next."
"Whatever, I will leave the city if you want."
"You are not leaving till I say so."
Rafel went quiet for a few seconds, then spoke again. "Actually, You should enroll in the empire academy."
"The empire academy? Oh right, I know that one. My grandfather studied there. Thats how my father and I learned sorcery."
"That academy is filled with strong sorcerers, your chance of killing someone is lower there. Plus, the sense of danger you spread is too great to be ignored, I will visit the academy whenever my instinct tells me to."
"I have to look for my brother!" Üral yelled.
"You can do better research in the academy. I am not giving you a choice, fight me or enroll in the academy."
Üral raised his hand and let his energy flow to his sigils.
